Summary on Grant Application Form
The main objective is to study the signatures of the extreme anisotropy in layered structure superconductors via an investigation of the out-of-plane mixed state properties. This will be made on Bi2212 single crystals over a wide range of angles between the external field and the crystallographic (ab) plane and in the temperature region close to Tc. This is the region where the thermal fluctuations of flux lines become important, and the measurable critical current and relaxation rate are determined by the interplay of two effects: thermal suppression of the pinning strength and the (weak) Josephson coupling between superconductive layers, both imposed onto the superconducting parameters divergence close to the mean-field transition temperature. The results of this study are expected to provide important information concerning the vortex structure and the strength of interlayer interactions in HTSC.
