Summary on Grant Application Form
Equal priority:(1) Studies in metal-promoted hydrodesulfurization (HDS): to establish mechanisms for the C-S cleavage reaction in the HDS of sulfur heterocycles (especially thiopenes) over metals. The increased understanding will lead to new insight and improvements in catalytic HDS processes in industry.(2) New directions in CO hydrogenation builds on the data now accumulating that olefin formation over Rh-Ce-Si02 proceeds via alkenyl induced methylene polymerisation. Research proposed undertakes reactions with other metals and supports, and initiators other than vinyls, and the consequent introduction of new synthetic methodologies.
