Summary on Grant Application Form
This is a multidisciplinary project combining expertise in the Synthesis of novel Phthalocyanine compounds, the deposition and characterisation of Langmuir-Blodgett (L.B) films and device engineering. The programme has been devised through a collaboration between the applicants and Prof A K Ray, Sheffield Hallam University and two SME's. The overall objective of this pre-competitive LINK research project is concerned with the development of a gas sensing device based on novel phthalocyanine cladded optical fibre interferometer. The research component to be performed at UEA for which this application is made involves: (i) the synthesis of novel phthalocyanine (Pc) molecular sensors as L.B films. (ii) experimental evaluation of the new Pc molecules for use in optical interferometric gas sensing devices.
