The work proposed is concerned with flow pattern in vertical; upwards gasliquid flow. The ability to predict such flow patterns is an important precursor to improved (phenomenological) modelling of two-phase flow. Specifically, it is proposed to study the bubble/slug, slug/churn and annular/wispy annular transitions. In each of these cases, there are large uncertainties in current methods. The programme suggested will be a joint one between Oxford University, Nottingham University and Imperial College.
