Summary on Grant Application Form
This programme seeks to provide high precision boundary layer data, for hypersonic pressure gradient flows, both for interpretation of flow physics and also evaluation of CFD codes. The integration of CFD and experiment is regarded as a vital part of this proposal and it is intended to design our equipment with our existing Navier-Stokes codes to ensure the best possible selection of test parameters and distribution of instrumentation. The test configuration will comprise a hollow cylinder, as the basic zero pressure gradient test body, plus the use of concentric cowls and compression flares to produce specific pressure gradient interactions. All the experimental ideas have been proven in a previous study and we consider that the configuration is an efficient, adaptable and accurate arrangement.
