1. Build extruder. Test with stable oxide glasses to make rods and core/clad preforms for assessment. Pull to optical fibre, assess fibre microstructure and attenuation.2. Design core/clad pairs of special glasses (required for the active behaviour) on basis of thermal properties and refractive indices. *Extrude rods, tubes and preforms of: Ga-La-S glasses, oxide coated heavy metal halide glasses. Assess rods, tubes, preforms. Pull to optical fibre and assess(*=NOVEL)
