Summary on Grant Application Form
The 3 year resaerch program aims to investigate advanced signal processing methods for the harmonic analysis of inductin motor stator currents waveforms in order taht accurate speed, and possible position, inforamtion can be obtained without mechanical sensors. The project aims to confirm the superiority of recursive parametric processing over standard FFT methods for tracking the rotor slot harmonics. The project also investigates the performance of the methods for non-stationary signals which will allow speed and position to be derived (from the currents) during drive transients. The analysis techniques are expected to replace FFT methods as powerful processors become commonplace. A knowledge of the mothod's capabilities in extracting speed and position signals from the motor currents is considered crucial in order to support further research into IM rotor design that may increase the level of mechanical information in the terminal measurements. The application areas for mechanical sensorless induction motor drives are significant and underly the importance of the proposed research.
