Summary on Grant Application Form
1. To develop a theoretical method for predicting the 3 dimensional relative motion and associated cable tension between a support vessel and a suspended subsea unit during the passage of the latter through the air gap, in deployment/retrieval operations. 2. To devise a feedback control mechanism to actively reduce relative motion between the vessel and the unit.3. To verify the prediction method and proposed control scheme via model experiments and full scale measurements. 4. To undertake a parametric investigation to identify and quantify the effect of key factors. 5. To propose operational and design guidelines to ensure safe lifting operations.
