Summary on Grant Application Form
To build a general and flexible platform for the creation and display of multimedia presentations. To exploit our storage architecture for structured presentation data and continuous media data.To explore the specification of presentations in a script language.Progress:The references below describe our work in some detail. In summary:We have designed and implemented a presentation object database above the structured file service of our multi-service storage architecture.Presentations are specified in a script language which has several novel features. Composite event expressions allow presentations to be interactive and event driven. Sets of objects may be defined and quality of service policies expressed regarding them. We are currently extending our work on event detection, which is needed for a wide range of applications including multimedia. We have implemented a number of interactive cooperative applications, such as video conferencing and a shared drawing board, and have found applications to be constructed easily and quickly using our generalised facilities.
