Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposal seeks part-funding for an SEM to enable multi-mode SEM work on electrical materials to continue in the Department of Physics at Durham. Project which will benefit from the proposal are: (i) identification of structure/property correlations in new molecular electronic materials (in conjunction with AFM/STM). (ii) evaluation of loss mechanisms in CdTe based epitaxial solar cells. (iii) detailed assessment of defects and interfaces in heteroepitaxial II-VI layers (including contrast analysis). (iv) development of new electroceramic materials and the assessment of superconductors. The SEM facility would also support materials research efforts in other departments including engineering and chemistry.
