Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose to examine the effect that oscillatory flow in periodically baffled tubes has on the transfer processes of multiphase flow. Combinations of liquids gas and solid particles will be considered. The nature of the fluid mixing will be investigated using flow vizualization and laser velocimetry techniques and overall heat and mass transfer together with residence times and energy dissipation will also be measured. From a knowledge of the fluid mechanics, models of the measured transfer processes will be developed for both batch and continuous operation.
