Summary on Grant Application Form
The newly discovered one-pot cycloaddition with Bun3P/CS2/wittig reaction will be used for direct conversion of strained double bonds to 2-alkylidene-1,3 dithiolanes. By choosing suitable alkene components (acetylene synthons) this will provide direct access to extended analogues. Building on encouraging preliminary results the use of norbornadiene and analogues together with dialdehydes will be used to obtain novel 1,3 dithiolane-containing polymers. Again suitable choice of the diene component and/or subsequent oxidation will afford polymeric TTF structures of great interest as elecroactive materials.
