Summary on Grant Application Form
High Zr and Li content Al-Li alloys will be manufactured by spray forming followed by extrusion. The resulting microstructures will be characterised by electron microscopy and optical microscopy/image analysis; mechanical properties will be evaluated by tensile, fractures and fatigue crack growth testing; and dislocation flow and crack tip processes determined by electron microscopy. A model of the micromechanical behaviour of spray formed Al-Li allow will be developed as a function of microstructure, to optimise allow constitution and processing condition.
