The project focuses on developing high compressibility Fe-Nd-B base powders admixed with pure iron and copper. Reactions between these non-homogeneous powder mixes will be followed by differential scanning calorimetry to determine the thermodynamic data necessary to obtain a balanced sintering reaction. A gas atmosphere sintering furnace will be employed to observe whether such samples can be sintered in a clean argon atmosphere. The structure and magnetic properties of these samples will be measured. Finally, diamond-like coatings will be applied to the surface of sintered magnets to see if these will provide a suitable corrosion resistant coating.
