Summary on Grant Application Form
A comprehensive study of the chemistry and the structure-reactivity relationships in electronically and co-ordinatively unsaturated cationic alkyl complexes of early transition metals is proposed. Based on the high polymerisation activities discovered with these catalysts so far, improved systems for polymerisation and copolymerisation under higher pressures and temperatures are to be developed, including the synthesis of new polymers and their structural characterisation. The synthetic and catalytic chemistry of do-complexes with different ligand systems is to be explored in an effort to considerably widen the scope of cationic alkyl complexes and to define their role as polymerisation catalysts or initiators.
