Summary on Grant Application Form
A prototype compression moulding system for rubber compounds will be evaluated and process models developed. The purpose of the system is to control the deformation and heat history of the rubber compound in during moulding, to minimise orientation and residual stresses and provide uniformity of crosslink density. The Boltzmann superposition integral theory will be used as a starting point to model the effects of deformation and heat history on residual stresses. The effect of heat history on crosslink density distribution will be modelled by an empirically modified Arrmedius model, in conjunction with transient heat transfer analysis. The modelling is directed towards system design and optimisation for specific product geometries.
