Summary on Grant Application Form
The programme aims to develop a software design support system for use in the prototype fatigue design stages of the automotive industry. The software is intended to integrate the use of finite element structural analysis and structure/cost optimisation via fatigue lifetime algorithms developed for use with real components subjected to multiaxial loading and complex stress states, along with material databases. The aim is to produce an integrated design system which will reduce prototype lead design time, give enhanced material performance and structural strength/life-to-weight ratio and so also reduce design, test, material and piece part costs. The cost of unexpected component fractures should also be reduced. It is also intended that the design tools developed be made commercially available to other engineering industries.
