Summary on Grant Application Form
Project aims: Omitec to produce new ultra stable coatings to cover the near UV to the near infra-red region of the spectrum. RTS to do the ground work so that Raman systems can be taken out of the laboratory into industry and forensic science, and hence produce commercially viable products. Leeds to enable the eventual technology transfer of the invention from the University Laboratory into viable commercial products. Project objectives: Omitec the general objectives are to produce thin films with scatter of less than 10ppm and absorption of less than 1ppm, with a refractive index variation of about 0.1% (batch to batch). Current capabilities are:- scatter 100ppm- absorption 10ppm- refractive index variation of about 0.5%The specific objective with the notch and edge filters is to produce filters with a leading edge of less than 100cm-1 (current capability 300cm-1). Various specific optical coatings will be considered:- mirrors with a well defined reflectivity band- notch filters- edge filters- narrow band filters tilt-tuneable ie polarisation insensitive
