Summary on Grant Application Form
The accurate prediction of unsteady loads in transonic flow is essential for helicopter rotor design and for an adequate prediction of aeroelastic effects. Conventional CFD methods are expensive to use and it is desirable to use simpler methods. The prime contender is the indicial method which has been used successfully for subsonic flow and some simple two dimensional transonic flows. The proposed work is aimed at developing this method to treat more complex unsteady transonic flows and to investigate ways of predicting unsteady separated flow.
