Summary on Grant Application Form
Starting from an existing CFD code, already applied to 3D flow in volutes , research will be carried out to develop a CFD methodology to allow: (i) the calculation of compressible and incompressible flow; (ii) the use of a flexible and efficient mesh generation module to enable the study of typical turbocharger features, e.g. multifile entry volutes, moveable guide vanes, etc. (iii) the detailed analysis of carry-over effects in volute tongue region; (iv) the assessment of unsteady entry flow effects on volute performance. The developed code will be validated against the available experimental data in the literature including design and off-design conditions.
