Summary on Grant Application Form
Isothermal rheological measurements will be made on GMTs using a servohydraulic testing machine with temperature-controlled squeeze-flow dies. The die geometries used will include circular, to give a biaxial flow field, and flat channel to give a plane strain flow field.A hydraulic forging press will be modified and equipped to enable testpieces to be stamped under conditions comparable to those in a manufacturing operation. The following regions of processing behaviour will be modelled: initial homogeneous deformation; the point at which the fibre network ceases to flow; the deformation of the fibre bed; squeezing out of resin that occur at the highest strains.
