Summary on Grant Application Form
The MAPS programme is the design and construction of the first generation of instrumentation for neutron inelastic studies of single crystals of various condensed matter systems. The programme has attracted considerable interest from abroad with funding already provided by AT&T Bell Labs, and the possibility of financial support for future upgrades from the DOE (USA) and Japan. The programme has met all deadlines and milestone so far. In the process of undertaking this project we have identified an essential additional requirement which is needed to develop the full potential of the instrument and ensure its reliable and smooth operation. This is a 100 Hz background chopper.
