Summary on Grant Application Form
To use ab-initio techniques on small molecules to optimise parameters for semi-empirical calculations to determine the polarisability and hyperpolarisability (first and second) of metal complexes with hetero-atom ligands. To compare calculated and experimental values on known compounds and then use calculated values on 'unknown' compounds to guide existing synthesis programmes into the preparation of new materials with improved NLO properties.
