Summary on Grant Application Form
We request funds for a three year PDRA for the preparation of novel conducting polymer-inorganic oxide colloidal composites. These colloidal dispersions will be characterised in terms of their chemical composition, electrical conductivity and morphology at Sussex. We also request funds to purchase a disc centrifuge in order to determine the particle size distributions of these new colloids. In addition, we will utilise our existing external collaborations to access state-of-the-art techniques such as small-angle neutron and x-ray scattering, atomic force microscopy and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy in order to examine the nanomorphology of those composites. One of our primary objectives will be to establish synthesis/structure/property relationships for these materials. Finally we will evaluate various potential applications for these novel composite colloids.
