Summary on Grant Application Form
The combined erosion and corrosion of heat exchanger alloys in fluidised beds both with and without applied coatings will be studied. The initial stages of the project will quantify the mechanisms involved in erosion - corrosion of isothermal tests. Further tests will include the effects of thermal gradients applied across the tube wall by having steam cooling on the inner surface of the tubular specimens. A range of fluidised bed temperatures and a range of cooled tube temperatures will be studied. The coatings studied would be introcarburised, nitrided and plasma sprayed alumina.
