Summary on Grant Application Form
(i) to fabricate YBCO/PrBCO, YBCO/DyBCO and YBCO/GdBCO multilayers; (ii) to measure physical properties of the multilayers by R vs T, tunnelling, ATR, STM, susceptibility, XRD and SEM; (iii) to study and utilise as a control diagnostic, plasma plume absorption spectroscopy. The detailed scientific case for this programme presented in our recent SERC grant application (GR/H 08242) and appended as Appendix 2, has already been peer reviewed and funded (in part) by SERC. Work on this programme is now building up momentum with the recent appointment of an experienced RA, Dr Hazem Sakeek. A new research student, Ali El-Astal (privately funded) recently joined the group, bringing our full time laboratory-based researchers to three. With some additional equipment resources we would hope to be in a position to offer a project in this area to a new student starting in October 1992.
