Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal aims to develop a highly flexible deposition unit incorporating an excimer laser with ultra violet radiation. This laser will be employed in a single unit which will combine both laser ablation deposition and laser-assisted CVD. Studies will concentrate on the growth of copper indium/gallium selenium thin film alloys (CIGS) and on thin film transparent conducting oxides, namely indium oxide, indium tin oxide (ITO) and zinc oxide. This novel facility will enable films of these complex materials to be deposited with greater control over their composition than has hitherto been possible. The desirable electro-optical characteristics of a combined ITO/CIGS structure may then be realised.
