Summary on Grant Application Form
This project is concerned with the requirements for sensing and feedback for use in the control of high speed process machinery. Reflecting the commercial interests of the industrial partner, the proposal is focused towards the automated manufacture of shoes and more specifically uses a shoe rougher as typical example of a high speed process machine. The primary aim of the work is to define and demonstrate the requirements for a sensor system capable of providing a quantitative assessment of the quality of the process. It is anticipated that this can be used in conjunction with advanced control techniques arising a parallel project at the University of Sheffield (GR./H 66495) to facilitate the automation of the shoe roughing machine.
