Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project aims to exploit the resolution of a series of tertiary acetate esters using a commercial lipase from Candida Cylindracea. This follows from a discovery made from grant GR/G 11088 which allows us access to this class of chiral compounds in enantiomerically pure form. The acetylenic compounds, once resolved, will be transformed into suitable monomers for the synthesis of polymeric materials. Novel polyamides and polyesters will be prepared carrying resolved chiral centres and their physical properties will be studied. Similarly, some novel and structurally elaborate metathesis polymers will be prepared using the resolved monomers.
