Summary on Grant Application Form
To provide a flexible basis for QA of adhesively bonded joints for steel and aluminium assemblies in automotive, aerospace, civil engineering and packaging structures. The outcomes will be 1) advanced instrumentation for QA at shop floor level, and 2) a deeper understanding of the QA process in manufacturing plant where adhesive joining is used. The principal deliverable will be an advanced ultrasound test instrument for assessment of adhesive cure state and detection of front or back face disbonds. The instrument will provide its test information in go-nogo form to allow its operation by untrained staff and to accelerate the QA process.
