Summary on Grant Application Form
1. To measure the magnitude and distribution of residual stresses in forged automobile components, establish statistical variations, and relate to manufacturing process.2. To study experimentally and numerically (using finite elements) the interaction between residual stresses and cyclic mechanical loading, and determine fatigue lives.3. To develop a probabilistic approach to incorporate residual stresses into an existing multiaxial fatigue life methodology.
