Summary on Grant Application Form
To account for the presence of disturbance waves in annular flow. The method of pursuing this aim will be to investigate various hypothesis for the occurrence of the waves using recently-developed experimental and analytical techniques. To investigate the effect of wave action on heat, mass and momentum transfer. It is believed that an improved understanding of the nature and behaviour of the waves can be used as a basis for improved predictions of transport processes. An example is the wave-induced bubble entrainment in liquid film which is now thought to have a significant effect on evaporative heat transfer. Transfer processes between the film interface and the gas core could also be predicted more clearly with a better knowledge of the interface.
