Summary on Grant Application Form
(i) to use LEED and STM to determine the surface crystallography of some metals eg Co, Ni, Ta grown on Si(111) and Ge(111); (ii) to then grow a further layer of Ge or Si on top of the metal layer and determine the new surface structure using LEED and STM; (iii) to use the STM to study the top atomic structure of some III-V and II-VI semiconductors; (iv) to develop the LEED code, including the Tensor LEED and the more recent direct method approach, for operation on a powerful graphics workstation.
