Summary on Grant Application Form
1) Materials with multiple phases: investigation of traveling waves in lattice models (=atomistic / crystalline level). Derivation of selection criteria for ill-posed problems on the continuum scale based on the discrete models.2) Mathematical framework for the evolution of Young measures and applications to problems in engineering (damage, plasticity, possibly fracture).3) Derivation of energies with many parameters, as arising from ab initio calculations. 4) Relaxation of multi-phase energies.5) Dynamics with a variational principle: Gamma-convergence.
