Summary on Grant Application Form |
SPRINTCar (Short-Production Run INnovative Technology Car) will showcase and stimulate the best-of-British university and industry innovative technology applied to an automotive application. The ultimate aim is to produce a vehicle through a collaborative interdisciplinary project that demonstrates successful partnership at the industry-academia interface. This proposal is to support the initial phase comprising a technology evaluation and consultation exercises so that the subsequent design and integration studies and the embodiment phase are adequately researched, resourced and planned. The demonstrator car delivered by the SPRINTCar project will be a road vehicle that meets customers', expectations in terms of performance and comfort levels, while surpassing all current legal and environmental requirements and aiming to incorporate anticipated future requirements. SPRINTCar will deliver ultra-low emissions, will be designed to be upgraded, for dismantling at its end of life (with a view to re-use and recycling), and for modularity and reconfiguration without compromising safety. SPRINTCar will not involve an OEM car manufacture to minimize constraints and to aid the showcasing of cutting-edge UK technology and the delivery of collaborative intellectual property and new opportunities for UK business. SPRINTCar will promote UK competitiveness in innovative vehicle technology and associated manufacturing processes through roadshows. SPRINTCar will be used in student studies, for example in the areas of marketing, management, design and embodiment processes, intellectual-property issues and commercialization processes. Best-practice will be available for translation to other projects.
