The successful outcome of the proposed project will deliver a novel vertical multiwafer reaction system capable of mass production free standing gallium nitride (GaN) substrates suitable for the manufacturing of blu-ray DVD laser diodes. To achieve this an essential component is the Computational Fluid Dynamical modelling of the system to inform and guide the experimental programme. This will be achieved by developing computer models that generate results matching the performance of existing related systems and then using this experience to generate results that will inform fellow partners with respect to geometry, the effect of geometry upon uniformity of temperature and the expected consequences for deposition of the desired GaN. As experimental results become available, the computer model will be refined in order to suggest methods for the improvement of deposition efficiency. There are no commercial multiwafer HVPE systems on the market yet and the Computational Fluid Dynamical modelling of the research system will aid the design of such systems.
