Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed research involves the development of a new family of ruthenium complexes containing chiral ligands based on cyclopentadienyl and indenyl systems. The ligands are accessible utilising readily available and efficient chiral pool starting materials. These complexes will be used as catalysts for the first asymmetric ruthenium catalysed cycloisomerisation reactions of molecules containing alkenes and/or alkyne functionalities. The research is wide-ranging and stands at the interdisciplinary boundries of organic/inorganic chemistry and has the potential application to medicinal and bioorganic areas. The work expands on the scope of known achiral ruthenium catalysts for the cycloisomerisation reactions, which is currently attracting considerable international attention.Key words: Ligand design, later transition metals, catalysis, asymmetric synthesis, synthesis of chemotherapeutic ag
