|
The PVC industry across Europe needs to improve its environmental performance and has committed to do so by signing up to the Vinyl 2010 Agreement. This agreement covers a wide range of environmental issues to do with the production, use and disposal of PVC and its products. Several of the key objectives in the Vinyl 2010 Agreement involve materials research input - such as the removal of heavy metal stabilisers and the recycling of large tonnages of postconsumer PVC waste.This project aims to set up a network to identify the strategic research needs that will assist the PVC industry in the UK to meet its environmental goals. Applications will be made for research funding to fulfill these research needs.The network will extend to embrace a wide range of PVC stakeholders (ie businesses and organisations involved in the production, use and disposal of PVC) and will seek to include them all in the process of improving sustainability. This approach can then be used a 'role model' for other polymers.
