Summary on Grant Application Form
The research would commence by taking the existing TEDDI software/hardware and customising them for in situ use. This involves the construction of a number of modular environmental cells (chemical engineering components; autoclave synthesis cells; crystallisation cell; infiltration cells; carbonation cell). These would be used to gain in-situ time-resolved compositional/structural maps during materials synthesis/chemical processing (e.g. component/alignment analysis in chemical reactors; autoclave synthesis of zeolites and Si-clathrates; polymorphic crystallisation) and to monitor the transporttretention of pathogens (e.g. prion proteins) and immobilisation (e.g. of heavy metals) in variously treated model storage media and model environmental systems (zeolite/cement combinations, hydroxy/fluoro-apatite barriers, chalk etc.). Subject to the constraints of funding with the sister application , the TEDDI methodology would be extended for use with multi-detector arrays.
