This proposal is requesting funds for Dr Li Bai and Dr Graham Kendall of School of Computer Science & IT, University of Nottingham to travel to China to visit the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) to explore ideas for future research collaborations between the two institutes. We firmly believe that the visit will help building on our strengths, identifying further opportunities and taking us into fresh fields and new collaborations.We plan to run a series of seminars, to introduce ourselves to the people we will be visiting. We plan to meet as many people, from as many disciplines as possible to explore collaboration opportunities for the University of Nottingham.We plan to visit (at least) the following Chinese institutes and universities: CAS Institute of Automation and CAS headquarters, CAS China Remote Sensing Satellite Ground Station, Al research group in Computer Science department, Tsinghua University, and Computer Science department, Beijing University of Technology,Seminars will focus on the way research is funded in the UK and key elements such as the RAE, the research undertaken at Nottingham, in the School of CS&IT and research seminars will focus on our main interests, in particular Dr Li Bai on face recognition and Dr Graham Kendall on game playing, imperfect environments and hyper-heuristics.
