Summary on Grant Application Form |
The central thrust of this science will be to engineer new metallocalixarene catalysts with well defined structures for use in olefin polymerisation. These new calixarene species will be assembled from smaller ligands incorporating many of the desired structural features which have recently been shown to stabilise highly active metal centres in other catalytic systems.Novel calixarene ligands will be prepared in Japan and their coordination chemistry studied at UEA.Screening of all promising compounds will initially involve schienk-line tests (1 bar) in the presence of suitable aluminium activators to the determine 'ball-park' activity of the catalyst prior to any systematic study of the effect of pressure, co-catalyst, temperature etc...
