'Pervasive' devices will have very limited resources and computational power, and programmers will rely on remote execution environments deploying robust, highly available services in order to secure their end-to-end applications' needs. Third-party resource usage will raise to an unprecedented centrality. Resources will need to be advertised, made available, managed, protected, and priced, while from the user's viewpoint, they will have to be discovered, requested, and used appropriately, and paid for.We propose an integrated approach to resource management for end-to-end pervasive services, spanning over foundational models, abstract machines, runtime environments and programming languages. We will develop the theoretical basis to underpin future applications, as well as deliver demonstrative working systems. The main themes of research will be:negotiation, monitoring and protection of resource bounds, whereby owners and users dynamically agree on a transient allocation of resources; third-party computation with resource pricing policies, whereby users agree to pay for their resource usage;exploration by migratory code of the (largely unknown and untrusted) environments they acquire by moving, and consequent adaptive behaviour.These will all rely on a notion of trust informed also by a novel concept of 'program reputation,' that is a measure of code past 'good behaviour.'
