Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal is to establish a network in the area of application of novel computation to complex systems. We propose to hold two meetings bringing together researchers in various disciplines who could benefit from a computational approach, in particular those whose algorithmic framework is similar, but whose scientific application is different. Benefit can be gained here both from pooling of experience with large scale computing and from crossover of analysis techniques. In particular, there are many applications where current analysis is based on exact solution of mean field models. In many cases the theories have this structure because they are solvable, rather than because they well represent the actual scientific problem at hand. We will investigate novel computational approaches, in particular introducing spatial resolution, to such problems with particular emphasis on ecosystems.
