Summary on Grant Application Form
The general research theme for the project is Nature Inspired Computing, with a focus on the fundamental, general area of complex networks and adaptation. The principal aim of the planning year is to create a consortium of researchers from biologically-based and computationally-based disciplines from University College, London and the University of Southampton. The disciplines covered by collaborators will span biology, physics, mathematics and computer science. The long-term ambition of this consortium is to work on problems involving complex networks and adaptation that arise in biological systems and in computing applications. A preliminary aim will be to develop a common understanding of the range of scientific problems that the team has expertise in. The consortium will then identify specific problems to be tackled which will require the collaborative use of methods and techniques borrowed and further developed from a range of disciplines. In order to fruitfully execute this ambition, the consortium will identify other researchers who can add suitable expertise to this collaborative research.
