Summary on Grant Application Form |
A central topic in the development of computer systems is the ever increasing scale of VLSI integration to a level where it is feasible to implement complex systems on a single integrated circuit, often including multiple processors. This requires the development of novel on-chip processor and multiprocessor architectures and novel on-chip interconnect technology, all of which fall within the APT group's research portfolio. The relationship between hardware and software in the achievement of high performance has become critical. Exploitation of modern hardware requires the support of tailored compilation, and the hardware must be designed with the requirements of modern language implementations in mind. The group's current and future research activities are concerned with a wide variety of systems and tools which are aimed at various aspects of the efficient exploitation of silicon technology.
