Summary on Grant Application Form |
The point of this proposal is to investigate the capacity of future wireless networks incorporating multihop wireless links, focussing on the benefits of using antenna arrays both at the base station and particularly at terminals. There are three major work packages to be carried out. Initially, the effects on the capacity of a cellular system of using terminal antenna arrays and multihop networking will be investigated. In particular, three different approaches will be compared, namely diversity combining, interference suppression and simulataneous reception of multiple data packet transmissions. Secondly, the work will investigate the impact of realistic scheduling and relaying techniques on the performance of the cellular/multlhop system. Thirdly, algorithm development work will be carried out to determine the best compromise between performance, complexity, channel estimation and required signailing.
