Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal seeks to achieve the generation of a new type of Coriolis flowmeter with the novel capability of a high performance dynamic response. Such meters will enable significant benefits in a wide range of applications requiring fast control actions, including short duration flow-batching; they will also allow entirely new areas of application, including the control of gas turbine engine fuel flow. The project objectives will be achieved through a collaborative programme of work between Oxford and Brunel universities. This will utilise the synergy between expertise in flow transmitter design (Oxford) and mechanical dynamics expertise (Brunel). Project outputs will comprise: design insights derived from existing and new knowledge, which will enable creation of meters to achieve a specified dynamic performance; the specification and designs for new Coriolis meters (flow tubes and transmitter) for two selected high dynamic performance applications, together with a proof-of-concept prototype.
