Summary on Grant Application Form
A new concept called Nonlinear Output Frequency Response Functions (NOFRFs) is introduced. The concept allows output spectra of nonlinear systems to be described in a way similar to the description of output spectra of linear systems to reveal, in a physically meaningful way, the composition of nonlinear system output frequency responses. Introduction of the NOFRF concept can greatly facilitate the analysis of nonlinear systems in the frequency domain which is important in the study of many physical and engineering systems and structures. Novel NOFRF based fault detection and diagnosis techniques can be developed and applied to detect, locate, and categorise faults using system frequency domain features for systems and structures in many engineering areas.
