Summary on Grant Application Form
The Posiron Imaging Centre has recently aquired a medical PET scanner which was formerly used at Hammersmith Hospital and was dismantled for transportation to Birmingham. It offers considerably greater sensitivity and count rate than the present Birmingham positron camera for PEPT studies in Engineering. Before it can be used in this way it must be recomissioned and its data aquisition system modified to record listmode data. A particularly valuable feature of this scanner is its modular construction, and as the second stage of the project we intend to adapt it to operate as a number of linked modules in more flexible geometry, suitable for flow studies larger scale rigs. The experience gained from this system will subsequently be used in designing new PEPT systems based on more modern detector tecnology.
