Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal seeks to engage, mainly the UK construction IT community in the EU ROADCON roadmap project to set up a collaborative network. ROADCON is a funded IST European project related to developing a strategic roadmap towards Knowledge Driven Construction. Under the ROADCON umbrella, there is scope for developing a national UK network to consolidate academic and industrial efforts and achieve consensus and strategic national direction in construction IT research so that a strong case for support to obtain funding on specific projects can be formulated under FP6. The aim of this network: NECIT, is to engage the UK academic and industrial community, including IMRC Centres, in coming together to discuss the various issues in relation to construction IT, with an overall European focus. The Network will be hosted by University of Salford where a special interest group (SIG) on Construction IT is already set up and coordinated by Prof. Ghassan Aouad. Initially, the proposed network will concentrate on the ROADCON's objective of achieving a consensus on common research and development priorities, realizing IT tools, infrastructures and processes for design, construction and maintenance. This will result in several interest groups being created to deal with specific future development areas and ensure that at the appropriate time the UK communitv is readv to respond to FP6 funding.
